Travel Team Questions & Answers

How do I register? This year Long Island Jr. Soccer has mandated that all travel players register online. The cost per player is $235 ($150 Lindenhurst registration fee and $85 travel fee for Long Island Jr. Soccer). Payment can be made via Credit Card – Visa/MasterCard/Discover/Amex. If this is the first time registering with our league, you will be required to submit a copy of your child’s birth certificate which will be kept on file in our league office.

What does my registration fee entail? The registration fees for Lindenhurst Soccer is for player participation in fall 2010 and spring 2011 playing seasons. In addition to the registration fees, the team coach may require additional funds for outside trainers, winter leagues and/or tournaments that the team may participate in throughout the upcoming year. These fees are decided upon by the coach of the team as deemed necessary.

Are there any other fees that are required of players that are on travel teams? Additional fees may be required for players. This is decided upon by each team and their coach individually. Usually teams playing at this level of soccer have outside, paid “trainers” and may participate in other leagues/tournaments during the off seasons. This is decision of the coach, not the league for additional funds.

How do I get a travel uniform? Lindenhurst Soccer has their own travel uniform.   This consists of two jerseys (one home and one away), two shorts and one pair of green soccer socks. While the uniforms may be worn for several seasons, it is at the discretion of the team coach when new uniforms for the team will be ordered, as well as enhancements or add-ons to the team uniform.   IE. player name on the back of the jersey, warmup suits, etc. The team coach will work directly with our identified league vendor to order uniforms.  All payments/returns, etc. for travel uniforms will be directly with our supplier.  The team coach will be able to supply pricing, uniform style, order dates, etc. to you directly.

How do you get selected for a travel team? Coaches are selected by our Coaches Selection committee and approved by our Board of Directors. The coaches for the upcoming fall and spring season are announced at the May Parent/Coaches Meeting. At this time, the coaches are required to provide two tryout dates for posting on our website. The tryouts are held in June and will be completed within 7 – 10 days of the first tryout date.

All players trying out must attend at least one session in order to be eligible for selection, but are encouraged to attend all scheduled sessions. If unable to attend any tryout session, the player must notify the coach, who will note the absence on the Travel Sign-In Sheet. All coaches must submit a sign-in sheet for all players attending the tryouts dates. The sign in sheet will list the players name, date of birth, contact information and any comments. The completed sign in sheets will be submitted at the time of team registration to our Travel Coordinator.

Coaches will not be required to fill all available roster spots at that the time of travel team selection for the upcoming fall/spring season. Coaches will be required to carry the minimum number of rostered players for the team to be registered. Minimum team players are by division as outlined by Long Island Jr. Soccer. Teams not carrying the minimum number of players will not be registered. Players may be added to the roster after tryout dates at the coach’s discretion. The coach should discuss the reason for adding players with the Travel Coordinator.

Travel Team “A” Coach will have the first selection of all players trying out for the age group travel teams. The Travel “A” team coach will have the right of first refusal for the players who register after the tryouts are completed. All players trying out for a travel team must be contacted by the coach prior to the registration of the team.

Is there a practice schedule? As our league is volunteer organization, we ask our coaches to follow our guideline of at least “one practice per week” during the soccer season. Practice dates, times and locations are at the discretion of the coaches. We hold permits to a majority of the Lindenhurst soccer fields as well as Shore Road and Venetian Shores Parks. Practices are usually held on these properties during our permitted times. Additionally the team coach may deem necessary for outside training assistance. This is funded by the team itself, not the league. Dates, time and location of practices will be determined by the coach, not the league.
